Becoming a Member of St. Mark United Methodist Church
Individuals and Families can become a member(s) of the United Methodist Church and St. Mark United Methodist Church in one of four ways:
Profession of Faith - A personal acceptance of Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. Membership by Profession of Faith is usually associated with the Sacrament of Christian Baptism.
Reaffirmation of Faith - A personal desire to recommitting one's life to Jesus Christ. Membership by Reaffirmation of Faith is usually associated with the decision by someone that has felt the need to recommit or renew their faith in Jesus Christ after having previously making a commitment of faith during a previous time in their life. During the service of reaffirming one's faith, emphasis is placed on Remembering One's Baptism, and being thankful for God's love and grace. The remembrance is then followed by the laying on of hands, reaffirming the work of the Holy Spirit in the persons life.
Transfer of Membership from another United Methodist Church - Individuals and Families can transfer their church membership from another United Methodist Church by transfer of letter. The previous act of profession of faith and baptism are acknowledged. Transferring members commit to supporting St. Mark United Methodist Church with their prayers, their presence, their gifts, their service and their witness.
Transfer of Membership from another Denomination - Individuals and Families can transfer their church membership from another denomination or church affiliation by transfer of letter. After having met with pastors or attending the St. Mark 101 class, individuals and families express their desire to become United Methodist, committing to loyal support of the United Methodist Church, doing all in their power to strengthen its ministires, as well as committing to support St. Mark United Methodist Church with their prayers, their presence, their gifts, their service and their witness.
*St. Mark and The United Methodist Church does not require re-baptism as a condition of church membership. We believe that having received the Sacrament of Baptism is an act of God's Love and Grace, and what God has done, God does right the first time.
Anyone who is considering making St. Mark United Methodist Church their church home is encouraged to attend the St. Mark 101 Class. St. Mark 101 is a 5 week class where beliefs of United Methodist are shared as well as an opportunity for prospective members to inquire about the mission and ministries of St. Mark.
